The Start of Alternative Treatment Education

May 31, 2015
Friends and Family,
We realized that we had not really sent out an update recently. Allison’s latest MRI showed some “stuff” about 4 cm in length, but they couldn’t really determine for sure what it was so they needed to do another ultrasound, mammogram and then an MRI-guided biopsy in two locations on either side.
We did that recently (last week I think) and while all the docs and technicians told us that they suspect it was just ductile carcinoma in situ (DCIS) which would have been very good, it turned out that wasn’t quite all it was. In one location, it was DCIS but in the other location (near the original lumpectomy site), the biopsy results came back as still invasive ductile carcinoma (IDC). Given this, they put her at a Stage 2 breast cancer. The good news is that there are still no indications that the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or other parts of her body. Bad news is that based on the size of the cancer, relative to Allison, the surgeon told her that the only surgical option is a mastectomy. So we met with a very good plastic surgeon in the area today to see what reconstruction would look like in terms of treatments, time, recovery, etc. That visit went very well and most all our questions in that area were answered. If Allison does do the mastectomy, one thing we have to decide is whether we do just the one with verified cancer or go ahead and do both so she is not always worrying about whether or when the other shoe will drop. If we go with the mastectomy, then we may try to schedule it is July when Jonah & Mia are at camp for 2 weeks because recovery with all the kids home won’t really be practical.
Before we decide on the surgery, there is a possibility of us going to a cancer center in Knoxville, TN (http://provisionproton.com) that which is doing pretty new Photon Therapy. This is basically very precise radiation to shrink the tumors. We have sent her records to them to see if she is a candidate and if she is we may go down there and have them do an in person assessment. If she ends up doing that program then I believe it is 30 straight days in Knoxville. One nice thing about this facility is that they seem to treat the whole person—not just eradicate the cancer.
Based on Allison’s cancer, the normal medical industry just wants her to do the assembly-line treatment plan—surgery, maybe radiation, then a 1-year long chemo regimen, followed by 10 years of hormone treatment. Nobody in standard medicine seems to want to find the cause of her (or anybody’s) cancer; they just want to get rid of it. Allison wants to find the root cause in her body that let the cancer grow—so once it is gone or at least halted it won’t come back or continue to thrive.
We have done a lot of research and there really does appear to be quite a lot that can be done in the area of nutrition to halt and prevent further cancer. Allison, by her own demand, had a panel of blood work done up. Not surprisingly, she is low in Vitamin D, a very high cholesterol LDL, very high level of parathyroid, low progesterone; high estrogen aka estrogen dominance, . . . . . all of which contribute to breast cancer. We have met with a naturopathic doctor and will meet with an endocrinologist soon in an attempt to get some of the critical element in her body back in balance.
Although always pretty healthy, Allison has made some lifestyle changes. She has cut out dairy, meat and all sugar. She is almost totally off coffee (maybe a ½ cup in the morning). She is juicing vegetables every day as well as eating whole, organic cruciferous vegetables, nuts, beans, etc. She is taking some very specific cancer-fighting natural supplements, and she has also added essential oils that studies have help prevent cancer.
Based on our research, it is doubtful that Allison will do the chemotherapy. With chemo, the cure appears to be worse than the disease. American Cancer Society statistics say that women in Allison’s category have only a 7% increased survival rate with chemo. When we’ve asked the doctor how they check if chemo is working, they said the only way they can tell is if the cancer doesn’t come back. If you then ask them, “well, doesn’t the cancer not come back with some patients that don’t do chemo?” They say yes. “So how do you know who needs chemo and who doesn’t?” They admit the answer is that they don’t so they give everyone chemo. Estimates are that at least 40% of patients that go through chemo, never needed it. Yet they will have lifelong side effects.
There is a movie produced a few years ago (which we haven’t seen yet) that several people have recommended titled: Cut, Poison, Burn”.

I’m
sure it is full of propaganda like many of these conspiracy theory movies are, the more we are learning the more clear it is how much power these drugs and pharmaceutical companies have in and over the health care industry. Our insurance is more than willing to pay the $500K estimate that the full range of treatment would be for Allison, but they won’t contribute anything to holistic or naturopathic medicine or needed supplements.
Anyway, this last part turned into somewhat of a rant, but that is our current update.
We covet your prayers and appreciate the books, cards and notes that have been sent. Just because Allison doesn’t look like she has cancer, we are in the fight for her life and requests help at times, as well as your prayers and encouragement.
